Twice the Fun with Girls on the Run NYC

This year, the Give Back Girls had the pleasure of volunteering with Girls on the Run NYC not once, but twice! We were honored to support this incredible organization at both their Winter 5K at Randall's Island Park and their Summer 5K at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park. Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their inner strength and build confidence. This is achieved through a fun running program that combines running with teamwork and healthy decision-making.

For the winter event, GBGs Arlene, Angie, Johanna, and Michelle bundled up and braved the cold to help make race day a success. When the summer event arrived, GBGs Angie, Johanna, and Michelle returned for another day of volunteering while Arlene stayed home recovering from a badly sprained ankle. Although she couldn't be there in person, we made sure she didn't miss out on the fun by FaceTiming her! She said that the call was the highlight of her day.

At both events, we worked at the registration tables, checking in participants, handing out race bibs, answering questions, and directing girls and their families to the correct meeting areas. Once registration wrapped up, we headed to the starting line to cheer on the runners. It was nice to see the girls supported by so many coaches, volunteers, and family members.

Of course, no Give Back Girls outing is complete without sharing a meal together! After both events, Angie's son, who is also one of the coaches, introduced us to fantastic lunch spots in the city.

Whether we were bundled up against the winter cold or soaking up the sunshine on a beautiful summer day, volunteering with Girls on the Run NYC reminded us why we love giving back. Wherever we are, we become part of the community for the day.

Thank you for reading our blog and learning a little more about Girls on the Run. We hope you can subscribe or leave us a message or idea. Please visit frequently and explore the volunteer opportunities page for upcoming events.

Next up, the Give Back Girls will grab their hammers for a day of building a home and forging more friendships at Habitat for Humanity. Follow along.
