Shake, Restore, and Mingle

There is one type of shopping experience that can get me thinking creatively while inspiring me in so many ways. I absolutely love thrifting! For those of you new to this, it’s shopping at thrift stores, secondhand shops, and consignment stores. Give Back Girl (GBG), Michelle was delighted to find out about a secondhand shop in Wallingford, named Restore, that benefits, Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is on the Give Back Girls agenda in July. Stay tuned. Michelle told the group about Restore and the plans began.

The girls spring cleaned out a couple of their closets, Arlene hit her attic for a quick weed out, and Sue delivered a truckload! Susan, from Blanket Blessings, also donated some treasures.

We decided to make a day of it. While Sue made a separate trip, Michelle and I planned one Saturday to drop off our loot, stop for a shamrock shake, and meet the girls later.

We met up at Restore where Alison greeted us enthusiastically while organizing some volunteers to unload our cars.

Our contributions were already hitting the shelves and being scooped up by shoppers as Michelle and I looked for our own treasures to take home. We each purchased pretty glassware to give as hostess gifts later that evening. Hunting for the perfect item is really the fun when thrifting.

We headed out with our bag of goodies and into the next stop. Shamrock shakes! So why shamrock shakes?? Participating (the operative word) McDonalds were sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit Ronald McDonald House. A whopping .25 of each 5.00 shake goes to benefit families of sick children. We wanted to give our fifty cents while while encouraging others to do the same on social media. Anyway it was a challenge.

We stopped at the Wallingford McDonalds excited to get our green treat! After fetching a supervisor, we were told they were not participating! Several Google searches later we were ready to give up and then Michelle mustered her Give Back Girl attitude and called Ronald McDonald House!

She was told that all the McDonalds were part of the fundraiser except Wallingford! Back in the car and 15 minutes later we were sipping in our shamrock shakes. We decided next year we will mail a check to the organization instead!

Saturday evening was set aside for all of the GBGs to gather at GBG, Angie’s, home. She is an amazing hostess!

The night was filled with delicious Latino fare, a little Spanish lesson, and some “Shaking” it loose to some Latino music! (Pun intended!)

You see that amazing Flan? Well I nearly dropped it on the floor and caught it mid air! Yes, there was a large, multi-GBG gasp! 😱

After dinner Angie treated us to a little night cap with some music and dancing.

A great give back Saturday and the perfect way to end the day!!!
