Night to Shine: A Prom with Purpose

💗 On Valentine’s Eve, something truly magical happened.
Thanks to the incredible vision of the Tim Tebow Foundation, churches around the world opened their doors to host “Night to Shine", an unforgettable prom night experience for individuals with special needs.
When GBG-Johanna told us that her church, Vox Church, would be hosting “Night to Shine" here in Connecticut, the Give Back Girls jumped at the chance to be part of something so special!
The moment guests arrived, the magic started. There was a red carpet complete with paparazzi, glamorous hair and makeup stations, a delicious buffet dinner, dancing, and a room filled with fun activities. But the most magical part? Every single guest was celebrated. Every single guest was seen. And at the end of the evening, each one was crowned a king or a queen — because that’s exactly who they are 👑 .
Give Back Girls Arlene, Michelle, and Johanna were assigned to the food and hospitality team, and they jumped right in behind the scenes, washing fruit, creating colorful fruit platters, and arranging beautiful cracker and cheese trays. They also had the sweetest job of all: designing a dessert table filled with cupcakes, cookies, and popcorn drizzled in chocolate. This was a guest (and volunteer) favorite! The buffet was incredible — fresh salads, chicken, steak, pasta, rolls, vegetables — everything donated by local vendors. Seeing it all come together was amazing! Of course, we couldn’t resist spending time with the guests, so we stepped into the buffet line to help dish out food, sharing smiles and conversations along the way. We were having so much fun, we almost forgot to set out the dessert buffet. Michelle quickly ran to wheel out the desserts and set up the station, while Arlene and Johanna continued to serve the dinner.
Meanwhile, Give Back Girl Angie was having a blast working the activities room at the photo booth. She loved helping guests strike fun poses and capture picture-perfect keepsakes from their big night. Watching everyone dressed in their finest — suits, gowns, sparkling accessories — with huge, genuine smiles, was something we will never forget.
“Night to Shine” isn’t just a prom. It’s a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together to celebrate ability, worth, and unconditional love.
