A while back, Michelle’s friend, Donna, had introduced the Milford,CT chapter of The Cure Starts Now. This organization is dedicated to all cancers while starting with the most deadly: Pediatric brain tumors. The Milford chapter was organized in honor of Serena Mulligan who succumbed to the disease under the age of 23. The Give Back Girls have participated by volunteering at the can drive and attending the last two annual cancer blast walks.
Last year, Give Back Girls, Angie, Michelle, and Arlene worked the registration and T-shirt table while Donna tended the food and snack pavilion.

GBG Johanna was the true hero last year! She donned the paw patrol mascot costume all day in the bright sunshine. Her vision was obscured so she stood in one place as the little walkers approached her with delight. She interacted with them, without being able to actually see them and created joyful smiles and giggles.

We officially welcomed two new GBGs at this event! GBG Sunshine and Joelle received their official Give Back Girls shirts after working this event. Oh! These two ladies got up bright and early in the rain and cold to help set up the event!!! So brave!!

This year we had a generous group of girls that attended the event.

GBG Donna could be found in the food/snack tent as she has been in the past. Donna has been involved with this organization for some time and is often seen at the can collection site. Stop by with your bottles and cans and say hello!!!

The remainder of the GBGs worked the registration table, checking in walkers, passing out T-shirts, bandanas and capes while answering questions. It is a busy tent, yet the GBGs were ready for the challenge.
The walk was an energetic success! A vast number of walkers participated - large teams, small groups, and individuals, all with the same goal. They donated, raised funds with friends, and walked with a purpose...literally. They hugged the little walkers and supported the mission to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer.

Coming up next! The Give Back Girls will be putting on lunch for the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven and building a team for a Habitat for Humanity build! Check our Volunteer Opportunities Page frequently for ways you can give back and share the profound joy in helping others.
